Preserving Housing That Is Affordable

The Washington Housing Conservancy fuses expertise in commercial real estate and social impact to acquire and preserve mixed-income rental apartments so residents—particularly moderate to low-income African Americans and other residents of color—are not displaced and experience the opportunity to grow and prosper.

Our Solution

WHC is preserving 3,000 affordable apartments where residents avoid the “housing cliff”—that is, the risk that a moderate increase in income could make them ineligible to remain in their home—and escape the fear that rents will exceed their reach. Life in a WHC community makes it possible to envision an optimistic new future, one in which personal wealth building, home ownership, higher education and other goals are both possible and accessible.
