The Washington Housing Conservancy’s Executive Director, Kimberly Driggins, and AJ Jackson, EVP of Social Impact Investing at JBG SMITH, wrote a piece for Shelterforce on WHC’s creative social impact investment model. With access to the type of low-interest capital offered by JBG SMITH’s Impact Pool, WHC has been able to preserve 1,400 mixed-income apartments in multifamily communities across with DC, MD, and VA area in less than 2 years. It details that:
“The development of a multipurpose toolbox enables competition with private development at scale and speed. Residents don’t have to be displaced. Inclusive communities and neighborhoods become a reality. And new opportunities open for residents to build wealth and pursue individual ambitions.”
